Notes From The Fortress of Solitude

In the world of comic books, Superman had his place to retreat, the Fortress of Solitude. It was located near the North Pole, far away from the world's distraction and hectic pace. It was his secret place. I also have a secret, retreat place. It's a place to meet with a real-life hero, Jesus of Nazareth.

I used to call it "my cave", but it's not a place to escape from life, nor is it a hole in the ground. I don't run to it only when things go bad, or when I get wounded. When I'm there, I'm not in the dark. You see, it's a place filled with light. When I go there the atmosphere of Heaven surrounds me. It's where I find strength, strategies, and revelation. It's my high tower. It's my personal Fortress of Solitude.

God's Girl, God's Pearl

God came down from heaven and became a man, a man with a mission. He came to rescue her.

God's Girl, God's Pearl

He valued His treasure -
she was
His pleasure.
He'd pay everything -
she made His heart sing.

What makes a pearl
the desired gem,
Hidden in shell,
but different from them?

What causes the oyster
to change form -
from ordinary to
way beyond norm.

What kind of muster
brings out it's luster?
What sore irritation
brings
holy consecration -
In closed solitude
for the quality
imbued?

Just ask the diamond,
but not
the coal.
A similar process
brings out
its role.
External pressures over time
cause facets
to sparkle and
to shine.

But is it any wonder
why God's girl
is His
great pearl?
He saw her
eons before
in timeless past.
Made pathway to meet -
He'd see her
at last.

Pressed from all sides
from the world's irritation,
She stands up tall
through any situation.
Those agitated pressings
lead to His blessings.
This pearl of great price-
was His heart's suffice.

Poured out as
a drink offering,
The price was paid
in great suffering.
He drank a world's dregs
with lips to brim.
"Well worth it", He'd say
if you asked Him.

"Now I've got God's girl
as is rightly so.
Descending to rescue,
I battled her foe.

"Her and I -
two peas in a pod.
Perfectly matched
with heaven's applaud.
We both endured
the tempering,
We both passed with
song-a-singing.

"God's girl is MINE.
(Always was
My design.)
Soon to be joined -
without separation
Waiting it out stirs
the heart's
palpitation.

"Oh Abba, my father,
       when will you permit,
That day and the hour
when you would see fit,

"I ache deep inside
for my pearly bride.
Our love has grown
so long, high, and wide.

"What's that you say
about Your delay?
The reason You tarry
the day
when I marry?
She's in the last steps
for the
full bridal preps?
Remove spot and wrinkling
by Holy Spirit tinkering
While showering a sprinkle
of wedding spices,
Purity's fragrance -
this groom it entices."

That day is soon to come,
onward rolls
eternity's drum.
Like Cana's wedding -save best for last.
A thing truly worthy of
a loud trumpet blast.
That banquet's party
will have no end
Do you catch excitement,
dear reader, my friend?
