This post is in two parts. In the first section, I explain the concept of Yes/No. The second section is a poem that I wrote to further illustrate the idea.
I believe that God, from outside the bubble of time, doesn't look at our lives as linear events, like we do. He assesses us by the yes in our spirit to Him. We are either for Him or against Him.
An important affirmative is the yes to God's son, Jesus. That landmark yes sets off a powerful motion, the possibility of walking in a flow of yeses. These yeses and nos are a series of offs and ons similar to binary computer language.
The no is a hindrance in our relationship with God. The no, when undealt with, causes us unnecessary pain. It can be a dividing wall between God and man - an impediment that gets higher and deeper until we repent and move toward restoration.
A goal in life, therefore, is to have a positive rhythmic pulse to God - a string of yeses. The yes to God is a no to the kingdom of darkness, and vice versa. So simple, right?
Jesus is our model in this. He lived His entire life without a single no to God, His Father. He came to Earth to save us, but also to show that a righteous life can be lived. His sinless life remains unique, but our stained life can have it's slate cleaned, and then we can move into the string of yeses.
Saying yes to God can be a lifestyle of worship. I think of those habitual yeses (a habit, a good habit), as a drum that beats with driving force.This drum-rolled rhythm of yeses accelerates it's flow, gaining momentum that increases, even, our ability to say the yes. The longer we remain in the yes, the easier it is to live in right standing with God.
When I refer to yeses and nos, I really am talking about sin. The no is the doorway into sin. Yes, therefore, is compliance with Godly things, the righteous life that Holy Spirit desires us to live.
Practicing The Yes of God
When we get into a habit of saying yes to God, something happens in our spiritual core. A confidence is released. We relax in the midst of adversity, knowing that our yes instantly unlocks our escape hatch from the barrage of enemy attacks. Our "yes over no" opens up freedom victories for the overcomer. Then we have access to the overcomer's blessings that John reported in Revelation 2 and 3.
Yes Over No
I cried repentance for all my nos,
For all those times, when sin I chose.
But God reminds me of my yeses,
Then pulls me up, above my messes.
He measures my life not by the line,
But by the marker, by the sign.
The yes, the no, establish rhythm.
But Yes leads into Synergism.
The constant yes will surely establish,
Extend Abba's dream, His favorite wish
Such possibilities,
when yes rules
over no —
such powerful tools!
How do I get there? What do I do?
To fall in rank with a chosen few
"Practice the yes, and avoid the no."
Through the Son, a Father did show
A life without sin -
Where do I begin?
A history of yeses
Without the messes!
This life well yessed
God's heart expressed
Even to the depth
Of Gethsemane's press
"All yays, no nays!
Give'm praise for holy ways!
All yays, no nays!
Give'm praise for holy ways!
That perfect life endured great strife.
The bloodpath walked to whisk up wife.
The crimson poem penned on a cross.
He freely poured, absorbing our cost.
He breathed His last so I would see
What manner of love extends for me.
It didn't stop. It would continue.
A pit stop made below earth's view.
Preaching to spirits locked up in chains
Who had no clue, tho' they saw His stains.
Reclaiming the keys from hellish bowels -
Responsive shrieks, the yelps, the howls.
Back to the tomb, he did resume.
Waiting for escort, to air the room.
A burst of light, imagine the sight,
When death bowed down in humbled fright.
Done for you so you could run.
Like a hind steps peaks, danced under a sun.
Saints have grander things in store,
As th' Great Cloud claps, "More! More! More!"
